C.A.R.E Program Summary

Center for Adolescent Relationship Exploration C.A.R.E.

Program Overview

The CARE residential treatment program is a strengthed-based treatment curriculum. The cliental served are adolescent males between the ages of 13 -18. They must have a history of sexual offending behaviors and a co-occurring DSM IV Axis I diagnosis. The program is based on a 12-month stay, but is flexible based on each individual client’s needs. All clients elect to be in treatment. It is a voluntary program.

Program Goals

The program targets developing relationship skills, building conflict resolution ability, appropriate choice selection in day-to-day life, appropriate sexual perspectives, and expanding prosocial adaptive coping behaviors. This accomplished with a supportive non-punitive approach.

Staff to Client Ratio

There is a dense staff to client ratio. There is an accredited special-ed school on-site. There are indoor and outdoor athletic and recreational facilities on the campus. The CARE staff includes a trained experiential wilderness therapist; that leads outings that are educational & therapeutic. There is weekly community service both on the Unit and out in the larger community—to assist clients in developing a sense of responsibility to society.

Average Census

The average census is 12-13 clients. There are three certified juvenile sexual offender therapists on staff. The curriculum makes use of multi-media–video, audio, workbooks—to achieve its therapeutic goals. There are daily group therapy session for the whole community—staff and clients alike, as well as, frequent individual and family therapy sessions.
